Your Questions About Fifty Shades Of Grey

Maria asks…

Is there an age restriction on Fifty Shades Of Grey?

I really want to buy fifty shades of grey but I'm under 16 and I was wondering if I wouldn't be allowed to buy it in case I'm under age. Do you have to be a certain age to buy it?

Our pick of the answers:

The law regarding lewd or offensive imagery or literature is usually defined on the artistic nature of the piece. If an image has little or no artistic merit & is for titillation it's usually defined as pornographic. 50 Shades of Grey is a piece of literature that certainly has provacative content, but it has a relatively high artistic nature as well. So no in most places there wouldn't be an age restriction on, certainly not in Europe. Maybe certain states in American or countries where there is generally greater restriction on personal freedoms like China or certain Arabic states then it might be age restricted or even totally banned. Legally there isn't a lot of difference between books like 50 Shades of Grey or Lady Chatterly's Lover, then a nude painting by an artist.

Donna asks…

What is a suitable age to read fifty shades of grey and what is it about?

I was wondering what all the fuss was about the fifty shades of grey books? I have heard it is a love story about a girl and man or something along those lines but I am not quite sure what it is about. I have heard many people are reading them and I am considering reading them but I have no clue what it is about. So should I read them or not? Please give sensible answers :)

Our pick of the answers:

If you googled this, you would have gotten your answer in an instant. I haven't read it, but I googled it out of curiosity. Apparently it's an erotic novel so it's basically about sex and has a lot of sex scenes, and something about BDSM (i dunno what that is). The author actually based this book on twilight - but it's not like twilight.
