Your Questions About Commandant
Lisa asks…
What were the duties of a housemaid to a Nazi commandant at a concentration camp?
I'm writing a story and am having some trouble coming up with concrete details. Does anyone know what the duties of a housemaid to a Nazi commandant at a concentration camp were, what her day looked like, what her living conditions may have been? Much appreciated!
Our pick of the answers:
Watch Shindler's List. The girl lived in the basement and did pretty much "maid" things but of course was also at the Commandants mercy. Which he took complete advantage of.
Donna asks…
What were the responsibilities of a commandant in Nazi Germany?
Have to find out for a stupid booklet our English class is doing.
Our pick of the answers:
All I know is that a commandment is the officer in command of either a prisoner of war camp OR a concentration camp. They were assigned to a particular place or a group of people and in some cases were in charge of the extermination camp, and were required to witness every gassing carried out through a peephole, and supervise both the preparations and the aftermath. Stuff like that. Sorry if it doesn't help.
