Need help buying basketball shoes!?

I am trying to buy womens basketball shoes. Now high tops are in fashion, its hard to tell if the shoe is designed for sport or just for fashion purposes. Do you think there is any difference? Is a high top shoe designed for fashion, going to be just as good on the court? Cheers in advance xx
