Your Questions About Stilettos Knife

Jenny asks…

What does it mean for a knife to have "dark horn scales"?

I am looking for an Italian stiletto knife for a friend but i'm finding some of the knives say that they have "simulated dark horn scales". What does this mean? Are they less quality of a knife?

Our pick of the answers:

Basically from what I can tell they have decorative scales on them made out of fake horn no that would not be any more indication than regular horn scales

Linda asks…

does a stiletto knife blade slide out of the top of the handle or the side?

i was just wondering because my dad said that switchblade blades slide out the side of the handle and also that stiletto blades slide out the top of the handle. also is a folding stiletto knife really a stiletto knife?

Our pick of the answers:

Your father is correct. To bad both of the knives are illegal in almost all 50 states. You can buy a "spring blade" made by Gerber that behaves almost like a switchblade.
