Your Questions About Shoes For Women With Bunions

Helen asks…

Having bunion surgery, has anyone had it? boot on foot? crutches? how long healing?

ok i am going to see the podiatrist this morning for evaluation, my primary care said its a bunion and it hurts with some of my favorite tennis shoes, im 25 years old and a woman, the last thing i want is this nasty bone sticking out of my foot and it hurts! has anyone had bunion surgery? my pc said they give you a local but your soooo out of it,, however ive watched it on youtube and the girl was like wide awake eww!, I HATE NEEDLES seriously, but it hurts me with my favorite shoes and its disgusting looking... are you out of it to the point of not knowing whats going on when they are operating on your foot? was your foot in a boot during healing? do you usually need crutches? opinions are always appreciated, thank you! :)

Our pick of the answers:

My mums had it twice, once on each foot. Don't worry though they knock you out, you defo won't be consious cos they have to break the bone (but i suppose it depends on the size etc.) Can't remember the healing time exactly but i think it was about 6 weeks. You wear a soft cast and a special shoe thing. You'll need crutches to begin with. Btw i'd get it sorted now before it get's any worse (like hers did) good luck. X

Susan asks…

Are you suffering from wearing heels every day?

Why do you wear them every day? Do you find it difficult to walk on sidewalks? I see this every day -- women walking to work so carefully as if they could topple and crash or twist an ankle at any second. What's the payoff? On a date or special night I could understand... but from 9 to 5 workday? I just don't get it. Also, what is the deal with heels and jeans? It reminds me of the 80s trend that let men know that women were on the make. Except now it's moms, etc and it just seems unnecessary when the jeans cover the shoes anyway. The only thing even letting you know they're wearing high heels is the fact they are walking like drunk people. Heels are so bad for the feet. They cause callouses, bunions, and other foot deformities. Is this really sexy? Why continue if it causes suffering or difficulty walking?

Our pick of the answers:

Think about it. Women are "supposed" to look sexy and well put together. If you see a woman always going to work in sweats and running shoes with greasy hair and bitten nails, will you really turn your head? A woman's confidence comes from looking and feeling good in her own skin. This includes being stylish and having nice shoes. The heels make us taller, make us feel like we're strutting our stuff, and well, frankly they are sexy high heeled shoes, who WOULDN'T feel good in those!! Put yourself in our position. If you wear nice buttoned shirts and dress shoes to work, not only will you feel good, but women will turn their head. Imagine you wore sweats and runners everyday to work, would you really feel that sexy?
