Your Questions About Heels Without Heel For Sale

Jenny asks…

What's changed in Wrestling since the Glory Days?

Hey, first off, I am a HUGE wrestling fan, though only in terms of older events, I don't really care for the present WWE (not that it's bad). Now, the impression that I get is that wrestling has really lost it's grandeur. As each new Wrestlemania passes, it gets harder and harder for me to remember that this is mania, and not just another episode of Raw. Back in the days of manias like 17, 18, 19, you were really in awe of the spectacle. You had absolutely iconic matches like Hogan vs The Rock, the Rock vs Austin saga etc. Hell you even had the TLC matches, which we're arguably the greatest state that the tag division ever found itself in. Now, I am here to offer some friendly discussion as to why I feel wrestling, particularly mania, has lost its swagger. Firstly, the WWE has lost so many big names. Guys like lesnar and Angle could've carried the show on their performances alone. They were both terrific heels, as well as faces. You can see right now that the WWE is desperate to recapture their charisma, sadly Jack Swagger's carbon copy of Angle really doesn't cut it. I don't know if it's an issue with the way the talent is being managed, or if the talent is even there. No doubt these guys are incredible performers, but when was the last time one of them could lay it down on the mic like Austin or the Rock? Perhaps it is a lapse in writer's, because the plotlines just simply aren't what they used to be, and without names like triple h and Shawn Michaels to pick up the slack that is left hanging by the creative stagnation, the wound in the industry looks all the deeper. Now, I know Cena gets alot of flack for being the posterchild of the PG era, but really it isn't his fault. I think the best thing for him, and for the WWE would be to turn heel. I mean look at when the Rock started out as Rocky Maivia, he was forced down people's throats as being "the good guy", so he quickly earned their resentment. He got boo'd, and let's not kid ourselves, Cena isn't as popular as he used to be. In response to the crowd's distaste, the rock channeled his mic skills and charisma in another direction, and used the people's "betrayal" as a plot device to turn heel. Cena is probably the best mic guy the WWE has, him turning heel would be brilliant, I honestly had hope when he had to join nexus, but it didn't pan out. This will probably never happen, the industry probably couldn't take the losses from the huge decline in Cena T-Shirt sales :p In the end I think, personally, that a combination of huge talent loss, poor talent management and a crippling PG rating are holding the WWE back. It probably can't be as great as it was back in the day, but it could be a hell of alot better than it is now. I'm not speaking on a fiscal level, as the industry is probably raking it in at the moment, but from a fan's point of view. I won't blame the WWE for sacrificing quality for marketability, but I do lament the change. If you read all that, well, cheers :) Any discussion is welcome.

Our pick of the answers:

There are no longer Professional Wrestling Promotions across the United States where you could learn your craft work in front of live audiences every month and improve before moving to the next Professional Wreslting Promotion. World Wrestling Entertainment expanded into every market in the United States and wiped out all the other Professional Wrestling Promotions and the wrestling promotions that have risen in the last decade are much smaller and there isn[t the same pool of talent to draw form that existed 30 years ago.

Linda asks…

Do you think Mickie James is getting stale as a wrestler, and needs the following... ??

New wrestling moves? She's getting almost as repetitive as John Cena... When she gets into the ring, you know she is going to do her flying clothesline combos, a few vicious kicks, stuff with her legs, and then a spinning head-scissors aided by the top rope, etc... She's getting boring physically (as an athlete), and even though she is a very athletic young woman (as we all know), we also know that she is capable of a lot more, and we are even seeing some of the sucky, annoying, undeserving, unpopular "Divas" pulling out new moves every week, but Mickie has done the same old crap for about three years... The last new move she introduced, was probably in about April last year... She is getting boring to watch, and is getting a bit rotten and "same old shit" in the ring... I don't want Mickie James to become a sale performer, but she kind of already has... She also used to be the most popular woman in the WWE, the crowd loved that girl in early 2008, and her crowd reaction (in comparison to other Divas today) was today's closest thing to Lita's crowd reaction back in the 2000 - 2004 (for women)... New character! Her character is getting wicked stale, again, almost as stale as Cena's... When she was psycho, she was the new, fresh, unique thing, and she was amazing at bringing out her character, and she was the heel that everybody loved, kind of like a new, fresh and young girl on the block. She was a psychotic mess, and everyone loved it... She was also the funniest female performer when she was psycho (her mic skills WERE genius)... Now, all she EVER does WHEN she is even on TV (she is barely even on TV anymore (she is on like once a freaking month)), is skip down to the ring (which used to be MAJOR CUTE, but is now annoying), always with a smile on her face (I love her smile, but you know where I'm going with this), with the same old jumping, hyperactive body language, and facial expressions, without any real character... This 'sweet, all-American, cute girl who everyone loves the most' act is getting aggravating and old... She doesn't even get the same crowd reaction anymore, her character is getting painfully old, BORING, and she just isn't the fun, charismatic woman she was when she was a psycho heel... It is almost like she can't do anything wrong anymore... Her character is the worst part, she is just so dull, and she can't keep it up for long... Take Wrestlemania 22, she damn near stole the pops for the show, the crowd was ecstatic, and the crowd for that match was the most ALIVE crowd there has been for a women's match in YEARS... She got cheered OVER Trish Stratus, who got heavily boo'ed in favour of M.James... Heel Mickie got more cheers than anyone, face Mickie is boring and old... Everyone has been saying (for eight months now) that Mickie is a stale, boring person now, and she desperately needs a storyline. Bring back the colourful, unpredictable Mickie James back... So, my question, do you agree with me? Also, I swear any trolls or spammers will be reported... If all you have got to do in your lives, is go on the Internet and spam people, then YOU are the losers... I won't hesitate to block and report anyone who spams this question... Guys... MICKIE JAMES IS MY FAVOURITE FEMALE WRESTLER! I'm not saying it is her fault, it is what the WWE are doing to her that is annoying me... I am not blaming Mickie because there is nothing that the girl can do, I am blaming the idiots that haven't given her a good storyline and let her show what she can REALLY do in the ring (she is arguably the best female wrestler the WWE have). The WWE doesn't show her true potential. THAT, is my problem!

Our pick of the answers:

I also like MJ a lot; she is a great wrestler; one of the best American women wrestlers in years; if they developed her right with the right opponents and story lines she would rise to the occasion; she can wrestle with the best the WWE had during her tenure which means Trish, Lita, and Beth, and Melina--Molly Holly was gone and she had only one match I think with Jazz who was on her way out. I think the good wrestlers will go stale if they are there as second bananas to the divas, models, bimbos, etc.--in other words, while they are in Don Vinnyland. Look at it this way: in the old WWF when SAmmartino, Morales, and Backland and even Superstar were champs, Vince Sr and then Jr. Would bring in the best heels or babyfaces against the champion--everyone from Ivan Koloff to Bruiser Brody to Harley Race and Mil Mascaras came in--do you see Sara Del Rey, MsChif, Sara Stock, Cheerleader Melissa, Daize Haze, etc. Coming in the challenge and maybe win the title? No, MJ's problem is she is not a diva, she happens to be a very sexy woman who can wrestle and despite her non-wrestling photo activities does not carry herself as a bimbo. MJ has a problem. . .now, a decade or so ago she could go to Japan but that federation is not what it was then for women.
