Your Questions About Stilettos Knife

Maria asks…

Is it legal to carry a concealed knife with a blade of 6" in NJ?

I have no intention of hurting anyone. I was a boy scout and have grown a habit of carrying a knife on me at all times. Also, I'm going to school in Camden so it couldn't hurt to have a self defense weapon (I know how to handle it). Also, are throwing knives illegal to carry? I know "ballistic knives" (means any weapon or other device capable of lethal use and which can propel a knife blade) are illegal but a throwing knife isn't exactly propelled by a "device" it is thrown.

Our pick of the answers:

E. Certain weapons. Any person who knowingly has in his possession any gravity knife, switchblade knife, dagger, dirk, stiletto, billy, blackjack, metal knuckle, sandclub, slingshot, cestus or similar leather band studded with metal filings or razor blades embedded in wood, ballistic knife, without any explainable lawful purpose, is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree. Dagger dirk and stiletto might cover the bases, a stiletto doesn't even have a blade could do the same damage with a chopstick (3) A person transporting any firearm or knife while traveling: (a) Directly to or from any place for the purpose of hunting or fishing, provided the person has in his possession a valid hunting or fishing license; that pretty much covers any survival knife, that's not going to stop the guy mugging you from carrying one but it will probably stop you from defending your self or surviving some sort of apocalypse or being stranded somewhere but if we didn't have rights for the police to violate they might get bored...
