Your Questions About Stilettos Knife

Sandra asks…

Are butterfly knives good for anything other than being flashy?

I see so many kids playing with their little butterfly knives, so I was just wondering if the only thing that sets them apart from other knives is the fact that you can swing them around a lot, kinda like a yo-yo.

Our pick of the answers:

In a real combat situation, if you can get em out in a hurry, keep em sharp, and pray they don't snap on you, yeah there fine. The reason they are so popular is because of their size, there long enough to look intimidating, and skinny enough to be concealed, also the method in which there flipped out is meant to be intimidating. But in reality i prefer the CRKT M21-14SFG, it's a tactical folding knife, reinforced, and with an automatic double locking feature. Plus the blade on the stiletto isn't meant to keep an edge, it's meant to be a good sstabbing weapon.

Jenny asks…

Is a 10 inch survival knife legal to have in Texas?

Is it legal to have a Survival knife either on you or in your car in the state of Texas?

Our pick of the answers:

It is legal to own, but not carry in public. You can not carry an "illegal knife" (not illegal to own, this is just a legal term) on or about your person anywhere other than your property. On or about means on you or within reach. You can carry the knife in the trunk and be legal. Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not: (1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or (2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control. Http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PE/htm/PE.46.htm#46.02 (6) "Illegal knife" means a: (A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches; (B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown; (C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard; (D) bowie knife; (E) sword; or (F) spear. Http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PE/htm/PE.46.htm#46.01 If you read the above section (46.02 a-1) you will notice that it is illegal to carry an illegal knife, but it is legal to carry on or about your person a handgun in your vehicle without a license if: 1 it is your vehicle; 2 it must be concealed; 3 you are not committing any crime other than class c traffic; 4 you are legally able to own the handgun; and 5 not a member of a street gang (a-1) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun in a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control at any time in which: (1) the handgun is in plain view; or (2) the person is: (A) engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic; (B) prohibited by law from possessing a firearm; or (C) a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01. So if you meet the "requirements", ditch the knife and carry the handgun.
