Your Questions About Women's Platforms

Ruth asks…

How can I put a 60s outfit together quickly and cheaply?

I'm going to a mixer and it's decades themed. I want to be a go-go girl. What all could I get and put together that would work for that costume?

Our pick of the answers:

This isn't such an easy question to answer! So we'll start out with just a little explanation. The 1960's was a big year for fashion and culture in America. Beach movies, rock and roll, and hippie culture were coming in strong and leaving their mark on how people dressed. When you're looking for 60's clothes, the first thing to remember is to look for things that remind you of the 60's and what was happening with the people of the time. I'm also assuming you want women's fashion! Anyway, the first tip I have for you: Thrift Shop. Go to thrift shops, and don't be afraid to ask about the sort of things you're looking for. What are those things? Well, generally skirts that stopped about mid-thigh, and or the full-out mini-skirts. Knee-high boots (sometimes Gogo ones, though platform boots will generally work well) are popular, and so is tie-dye. Patterns tend to be clear and simple when present, though there are lots of solid colors, especially vivid pastels. Belts and beads are big, and so are blouses paired with afore-mentioned skirts. Kerchiefs are also popular for hair and necks, along with scarves. One-piece dresses with belts are also great. Culottes (those pants-shorts things) are popular, and the pillbox hat is a product of the 60's that was much, much loved. Earrings that were large, loopy, and colorful were popular. Ponchos were also a big thing, along with macramé accessories. If your local thrift stores don't have enough of what you're looking for, try costume stores and retro stores that sell things specifically for that. Make sure to take a good, long look at some pictures of the fashions online so you can get a good visual idea of what fits the decade. With fashion changing all the time, 10 years is a long period to consider. For your makeup, use this wikihow: http://www.wikihow.com/Apply-1960's-Style-Eye-Makeup Think lots of eye liner, biiiig eyelashes, and dramatic eye shadow. For your hair, short was in. Curls were in. You can also play it straight and sleek down if you want. There were a ton of hair styles of course, so peruse around to see which ones you like best.

Laura asks…

For those of you who consider yourself independents?

What would the Republicans or Democrats have to change about their current platform to woo you?

Our pick of the answers:

Democrats would have to get some common sense & the Republicans need to stay out of the woman's womb.
