What can I do with my certification in airport management?
Currently I'm attending college and trying do earn my AS in pilot training, but its rather expensive and I found out I'm a couple of classes away from being able to receive my airport management certification. So I guess my main question would be, will that aid me in finding a new job at an airport?
Our pick of the answers:
Absolutely will. Get it., and after a year in any job at an FBO or Flight Academy or Charter you can write your own ticket as far as what side of the states to live in. Or Hawaii. Airport management is a great job but takes a while to get. Start at Small airports and other jobs. Any airport job is great if you ask me. NOT TSA. (When I was a rampie I'd think "they actually pay me to do this") go to Flight School sites, FBO sites, Charters, they are always looking for Ramp Agents and other stuff, see jobs below.. With the certification on your resume and the fact you are in the AS program BOOM you have a job. Email and FAX your resumes and FOLLOW UP on the phone. A stock broker once told me "Wear the most expensive watch and shoes at the interview". That little gem is a little gem. I wrote a book on here and it wouldn't let me post it, if you want great advice email me at hauntedemail at America on the line if you know what I mean. That way I can tailor my answers to your circumstances. To get a job managing an airport you will need probably 8 to 10 years doing other stuff leading up to it. But there are tons of fun jobs to do while you are getting your pilot credentials. Best thing to do in the world is: If you can handle not being a pilot for a job (you can still fly of course) and work with pilots all day, get paid 2 and 3 times more than any pilots, have 10 weeks open and can scrape up 6 to 10 thousand or get a loan, go to Sheffield School of Aeronautics and get your FAA Aircraft Dispatcher's license. You WILL have a job upon graduation. Especially with Cert. In Airport Mgt. It WILL Pay $30+ thousand a year to start and within 5 years you will be making 60,000 and in 6-8 you will be well over $100,000 and its fun. And airlines hire first officers from dispatch in case you HAVE to fly, and have the hours. But yes, get that Management Certificate while you're at it. And if YOU NEED to build flight time or finish up your PPL or get your instrument in just a bout 2 weeks, especially if you are from Florida, England, or Kansas, well okay ANYWHERE...come to www.floridapilotcenter.com Florida Pilot Center dot com. They have Piper Tomahawks and Tomahawk II's that are in perfect shape. In Vero Beach 2 miles from the surf & sand. REALLY inexpensive motels, inexpensive hour building, as low as $75-85 an hour. Huge private hangar with kitchen and air conditioned lounge way at the private side of the airport. Awesome place for personal one on one everything. It's customizable all the way. People who poo poo your education are slobs who can't get jobs because they are slobs. Look at all the opportunities. The combination of the certification and pursuing flight training and pursuing a degree are ALL a foot in the door to any of these jobs. They want people who know about the industry so they are easy to train. It takes a really naive and inexperienced person to not realize this. Our pick of the answers:
Try Zappos and 6 PM, also just keep checking at discount places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, DSW, Nordstrom Rack, etc. Also look sales at department stores (check for extra % off coupons in the newspaper). You could also check ebay I guess?
