Your Questions About Shoes For Women With Bunions

Maria asks…

Are you suffering from wearing high heels every day?

Why do you wear them every day? Do you find it difficult to walk on sidewalks? I see this every day -- women walking to work so carefully as if they could topple and crash or twist an ankle at any second. What's the payoff? On a date or special night I could understand... but from 9 to 5 workday? I just don't get it. Also, what is the deal with heels and jeans? It reminds me of the 80s trend that let men know that women were on the make. Except now it's moms, etc and it just seems unnecessary when the jeans cover the shoes anyway. The only thing even letting you know they're wearing high heels is the fact they are walking like drunk people. Heels are so bad for the feet. They cause callouses, bunions, and other foot deformities. Is this really sexy? Why continue if it causes suffering or difficulty walking? Yes, I am short (5'4") so I wear them to concerts and on dinner dates. I can walk in them okay, but I son't do the ultra high, ultra thin ones unless I know I am going to be seated for most of the evening. I do like the way they look but no way could I wear them on a daily basis back and forth to work. I am in my mid 30s and the feet do change in response to bad shoes... I wear orthotic inserts now. But I have lots of cute flats like maryjanes that I wear to work, that look good with skirts but without the foot smooshing.

Our pick of the answers:

I wear heels everyday for work because I don't like how flats look. Also, my pants are longer that the floor, so when I wear heel, it evens them out. Also, because heels are so cute and feminine. And, I'm young, so I don't have a problem with my feet yet. I also know how to walk in them, and I don't look drunk. It's not hard to walk on sidewalks.. ...have you ever worn heels?

Mandy asks…

Does anyone know a good shoe maker that makes comfy heeled shoes for women with a minor Bunion condition?

I have been wearing flat shoes all the time to avoid any pain associated with heels. But I am a woman. It would be nice to wear a little heel for a special evening night out.

Our pick of the answers:

Cole Haan has a new line of shoes that the insides of the heels are the same as the insides of running sneakers. They are a little expensive but they are really cute and super comfortable.
