Your Questions About Women's Pumps Shoes

Susan asks…

What do you wear to a job interview?

I'm an almost 19 year old teenager interviewing for an internship at an engineering firm. What am I suppose to wear in order to make a good impression?

Our pick of the answers:

A FEMALE should wear a women's suit or blazer. With a jacket, pants or skirt and a nice blouse or jersey under the jacket. The suit should be gray, black, brown, navy blue. A blazer can be any color because it doesn't have to perfectly match the rest of your outfit. Earrings and some accessories would be nice....but don't overdue it. You need a neat hairstyle and make sure your hair is not out of place. This is a big deal...because if your hair is messy, then is makes all of you look messy. Wear heels or pumps with stockings or socks to match your outfit. Make sure your nails are filed and they look good.....this can make a big difference. Clean and polished nails are perfect. Because your interviewer will check them out for sure. Tweeze your eyebrows and put on some make-up and lip gloss.... But don't overdue it. Make sure your bag matches your shoes....and that your bag isn't too huge. Last but not least...when the interview is through and your asked if you have any questions....make sure you ask a few questions in reference to what you both discussed or what you would like to know that was not discussed. If you say you have no questions...you look bad and the whole interview was wasted in the eyes of the interviewer. So prepare a few questions in advance. They want some feedback and want to know you were listening. Trust me on this one! Also, sit up straight with your hands on your lap and look the person in the eye. Don't put your head down. Be personable, friendly and cheerful. Good Luck To You!

Ruth asks…

What constituted an outfit during WWII?

1940-1945: Stockings were in short supply, obviously, and turbans were popular to hold a woman's hair back, but what else? What other kinds of hats were worn? Were gloves worn on a regular basis?

Our pick of the answers:

Hats were often trimmed with feathers or jeweled pins, many were worn with veils that came down to just below the nose. Stockings came in pairs and had seams down the back. Gloves were worn with hats and when you went to town. Spectator pumps were a favorite shoe style in summertime...white with dark toe-tips, trim and heels. In addition to alligator purses, also alligator or snakeskin shoes, sling-back shoes and platform heels. Shoulder pads in dresses or suit jackets, and waists were cinched in pretty tight with belts that either contrasted or were the same color as the dress or skirt. Tight longer skirts had vents [splits] in the middle back or at the side. The splash-out evening wear was either bias-cut slinky silky or tight bodice and frou-frou skirt - sequin decorations, sometimes a little spangly bit on a shoulder panel, and an evening purse the size of a sandwich into which was crammed a powder compact, a rouge compact, a lipstick, taxi money [or 'mad money' in case you had to escape some bozo] and a lace-trimmed handkerchief for show, not blow. An evening purse was often beaded, sequined or spangled and had a metallic chain handle....the ones from this period are selling on eBay like you wouldn't believe.
