Marine Corps Commandant's reading list?
I have to order more books from the reading list and need multiple copies. Do small detachments like MSG's get any funds allocated by the Marine Corps to provide these? Anyone know of any funds or places that we can get them for free?

To those unfamiliar with the MSG program thinking of answering this - The Marine posting the question probably *IS* his units entire supply sect ion, and probably has no relevant MOS training whatsoever aside from a turnover binder someone threw at him that was prepared by someone with the same level of training as him. That's just how it is when the entire US Marine contingent in a country is 6 enlisted Marines and nothing more. 1) Detachment MWR fund. Books can be good for M.orale, improve troop W.elfare by making them more informed, and are R.ecreational fun. 2) Any book on that list that is over 100 years old is out of copyright, and you can find it and print several copies yourself. 3) The funding that comes down once a quarter MWR stuff. Use that to buy the books, save yourself from one of those idiotic detachment dinners that the guy on mids shift always loves. 4) Anything that is an official publication can probably be found online, and printed for your detachment. Few suggestions, as I skim down the Commandant's Reading List, as published by the Marine Corps University: Ender's Game is a great novel, easy to read. A Message to Garcia is out of copyright, and a quick read. MCDP 1 Warfighting is an official publication, and available if you google it. The Ugly American is a great book, especially relevant to MSGs. Gates of Fire is what the comic book 300 is based on. The comic book 300 is what the movie 300 was based on. Gates of Fire is a phenomenal book - and you can even crack a joke about it being especially relevant now that Don't Ask, Don't Tell is about to be repealed :P MCWP 6-11 Leading Marines is an official publication, and available if you google it. Small-Unit Leaders' Guide to Counterinsurgency is available from google as a pdf, and can be printed for each member of your detachment. Now we're moving on to the SNCO stuff... MCDP 1-2 Campaigning can be found on google. MCDP 5 Planning can be found on google. MCDP 1-1 Strategy - ditto If you want to skim the Officer's stuff, feel free. Don't let it intimidate you, there's good stuff there as well.

Question about the Commandant of the US Marine Corps?
Is the Commandant of the USMC also referred to as "Commadon"? What are some of his other "nicknames"?

I have heard the Commandant referred to as CMC at times, an example would be for waiver approval. Otherwise I have never heard anything.
