Our pick of the answers:

I started playing squash two months ago and my vert has increased a few inches. Even though you're not jumping often, it really involves the fast-twitch muscles and strengthens micromuscles in your legs. You don't have to play squash, but you can emulate the movements with a drill on a basketball court. It's especially good for dunking off two feet, because you can really crouch lower and explode vertically.

Sharon asks…

Fencing shoes in the Philippines?

Our pick of the answers:

You don't have to have actual fencing shoes to have good shoes for fencing. The key is to get shoes that suit your need, regardless of the sport they're being marketed for. If you're doing most or all of your fencing on wooden gym or court floors, you want a shoe that grips this sort of floor well, such as a squash or badminton shoe. Shoes designed for running, on the other hand, generally aren't good shoes for fencing as they aren't designed for lateral movement. Keep in mind that whatever shoe you actually use, you'll likely need to add an insert of some kind to provide additional heel cushioning. Also, many fencers find they need to add something for arch support as well. Good luck!
