I need to write about a pair of shoes. Help?
In school, we were given a picture of shoes to base a narrative writing off of - so basically it's like a picture prompt. My shoes are fancy, clear high heels. I was thinking that I'd write about a poor girl who sees the shoes everyday, and dreams of having them or something like that. Here's what I have so far. "Delicate fingers pressed longingly on the glass window of a store, leaving dirty marks behind that would later need to be cleaned. She stared at what was on the other side of the glass; a beautiful pair of shoes with intricate designs and details, resting atop a simple cardboard shoe box. Dozens of other shoes were lined up and on display, but this one pair was different and caught the eye of a young girl. Her clothes were tattered and gray, dirty and damp, and her bare feet were cold against the hard pavement. Her mother grabbed her arm and pulled her away, scolding her and not letting go. "Ruth, we don't have time to cloud our thoughts with things that we'll never have. We need to get home before it gets much darker." Her mother was nearly out of breath from walking so fast, and Ruth barely managed to keep up. After waiting in line for hours at the local church in hopes of receiving food or clothing, Ruth and her mother were turned away and told to come back another day. Their home was a small apartment, suited for four people but currently housing eight. Ruth's father spent the main part of each day doing jobs here and there, never finding a stable job in their ever-changing economy. Older siblings were often forced to go work, and any wages were put towards food and the apartment. Things like shoes were not considered a "necessity" and were therefore forgotten. Money was tight for everyone, and Ruth was one of the children forced to go without shoes." Should I.... A) Have Ruth go work at the shoe store to earn money for the shoes? Maybe she would work secretly and get the shoes, but have no where to wear them? B) Have someone else buy the shoes for her? Maybe Ruth will help someone, like perhaps help a lost little boy find his frantic mother, who will reward Ruth with the shoes? C) Have Ruth get the shoes for her birthday? Maybe her family has been saving a little money each month to buy them for her? D) Have Ruth steal the shoes and feel horribly guilty? E) Or maybe, someone else will buy the shoes and Ruth will never see them again. And, should this take place modern day or like during the Depression? HELP IS APPRECIATED. (:
