What shoes do I need for cycling class?

I am taking a cycling class at my gym. I want to buy shoes specifically for cycling in order to improve my workout. What shoes do I need? I believe that I need cleats or something to put on the shoes. My instructor told me that the pedals are generic. A lot of people in my class have the shoes with the cleats. what are some good brands and what kind of cleats should i get?

Your instructor didn't provide enough info. Generic doesn't mean anything, If indeed you need cleats, there are several types of cleat systems. The 2 most popular are Look and SPD. If I were to guess you will likely be needing SPD cleats and shoes to match. You must buy the shoe type that is compatible with the cleat. Cleats come with pedals or you can order separately. They don't come with shoes. 1st find out what kind of pedals the class uses. Then buy the shoes and cleats. You can get these at a bike shop or on-line at a place like bikenashbar.com. BTW, there are many good brands of shoes they run from about $30 on sale to $250 or so. Cleats are less then $10.

Okay so, for high school I want to girl it up more! I want to wear pretty colors but like toned down. I guess I want to go for pastels and softer colors. I like dresses and skirts and I also want to buy cute flats. I am on a budget because well this is america and my parents are middle class. But I do have money from my graduation.
