What are the essentials in Fashion Design?
What books are good to read? What websites reference the vocabulary properly? What magazines keep track of the trends best (Someone I spoke to said Elle was excellent)? Anything else you would like to ad. Please, be my guest. I would like to know about any and all of it. I got into a conversation saying I liked fashion and came up finding out that they started asking questions I had no idea about. So I want to learn as much about it as possible.

Our pick of the answers:
Read books about the history of fashion. Watch current fashion shows on u-tube. Magazines, it depends on what you are designing. Mens, womens, juniors, what style? Vogue is tracking haute couture for the most part, but mags like Lucky report trends to the masses who are in RTW (ready to wear). I think studying art is also important. It is a great source of creative inspiration for fashion design. And you should understand fabric, garment and accessory construction, shoe-making if you are planning to design shoes.

Any suggestions on where to buy clothes?
Hi, I'm a girl in high school. I wear Adidas/Nike athletic shorts (Not the short ones), sweatpants, running shoes, big tee-shirts, sweaters & hoodies, and sometimes sneakers. I don't wear jeans, and I don't really care about the latest fashions, because I don't think I would look good in them, and I don't have a ton of money or have time to try to make myself look nice in them. I like to be comfortable and mainly just go to school for an education. So does anyone know where I can get sweatpants for winter? I know there are some at Adidas and ect, but those are quite expensive, and I am looking for not pricy ones. I usually choose men's sweatpants, because they have pockets and look better. (No, I am not a cross-dresser, I like being a girl) I saw a few at walmart, but would they look weird? Would it look any different or more cheap because they are not Brand Name? I don't want to spend a lot of money on clothes... Also, where can I get athletic tee-shirts that are not expensive? I prefer brand name shirts, so is there a place I can get them? thanks in advance :)
