Your Questions About Heels

Sandy asks…

What kind of heels should you wear to shorten the look of your legs?

I'm very short, just 5 foot. so i got a dress for homecoming, its very short, and bubbled at the bottom. but when i came home and tried the dress on with heels, my legs looked super skinny and long. i really would like to wear heels rather then flats, but what kind of heels will make my legs look a little less long and skinny?

Our pick of the answers:

Groovy pumps :)

Jenny asks…

How do you position your heels when belly dancing?

I heard you keep your heels on the ground, but you could also not touch the ground with your heels. Which one is correct?

Our pick of the answers:

Depends which style of bellydance you do, and which movements. If you want an earthy folkloric look, keep your heels down. For most travelling moves you would have the heels up slightly so you have "bounce" in your step. Dancers vary in how high they like their heels for this. I was always being told only 1/4 inch of the floor by one teacher but that is wrong, it should be where you are comfortable. Some travelling moves you need to come right up on the balls of your feet as high as possible. If you are standing still learning moves, you may be told to keep your heels down and learn to move from your hip and belly muscles rather than shifting your hip around using your feet and legs. It's a good discipline for beginners and drilling.
