Sharon asks…
What do you think about the "Alejandro" video and, more particulary, the sacreligious imagery?
http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/lady-gaga/alejandro--218680590 She claims this video is sort of paying homage to the gay community and their trials and what they go through to be together, but to me, it seems that pairing homosexual imagery with sacreligious imagery goes against that. It sort of makes the assumption that homosexuality is against God. Millions of gays consider themselves to be Christian or spiritual. If that's not the message, what do you think the imagery is saying. People don't just throw those sorts of images in videos unless they have a purpose and are supposed to send a certain message. What is that message, in your opinion? Also, the men in the video seem almost like caricatures. I guess I can't expect much less from Gaga but it seems like if she really wanted to pay homage, she would have done a more serious videow without the added drama (men in fishnets and heels) and shown the struggles homosexuals face, or perhaps the video could have depicted a love story. She can do what she wants but just wanted your opinion. BQ: Is Gaga serve as a good ambassador for the gay community?
Our pick of the answers:
Like the rest of her videos, its crazy. I don't get it. I can't figure out what she's trying to express with it. Honestly, I don't care about sacrilege, but I'm an atheist. The men look freakish with their bowl hair and chest high underwear. Whenever she pays "homage", its usually in a weird and small form, and her music videos rarely seem to match her song. Telephone was supposed to pay "homage" to Kill Bill. The only thing it had from kill bill was the Pussy Wagon. There is a second or two where the stooge Moe look-a-likes caress each other. I guess that was the homage. Gaga is good at producing techno dance hits, not at being deep. She doesn't need to be an ambassador. She just needs to stick to what she's good at.
