What sort of shoes are you after? I assume you can get sports-type footwear by buying mens' shoes in a wide fitting, but youthful womens' or girls' shoes could be a problem. I have large-sized feet, too, and for some reason they think tall girls don't want to wear pretty shoes (either that or they haven't realised we exist!). I know this sounds a bit dodgy, and I hope I'm not overstepping the mark in terms of your age, but I have discovered that the best place to get nice evening shoes in extra-long fittings (i.e. 13+) is in fact from stores which supply drag queens! Very glam, although mostly really high heels! You may find that they also stock some younger styles as well though. Maybe you could get your mum to look into this - Las Vegas might be a good place to start, but I really don't know (I'm Australian, so the best place for me is Oxford Street in Sydney). Have you tried e-Bay? Best of Luck to you - I think my brother would like to meet you in a few years' time - he is 6ft7" (size 14 mens' shoes). It's so much easier for tall men - not fair!!!
Lisa asks…
What is the sizing difference on these pointe shoes?
http://www.amazon.com/Capezio-Womens-Aerial-Pointe-European/dp/B0002RFQ46/ref=sr_1_1?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1340154835&sr=1-1&keywords=capezio+aerial I already know what size I need but what is the difference between 5.5 C US and 5.5 E US Thanks in advance!
Our pick of the answers:
An E would be wider. However you cannot buy pointe shoes online without a fitting. The wrong width and your foot will turn in the shoe. You need the right shank, box, vamp, heel, platform, and profile for your foot. Even with a professional fitter there looking at your feet, it often takes about an hour of trying on different pointe shoes to find the right fit. You also have to try them on with the padding you are going to use if you use padding. That also changes the size. Because pointe shoes only last 12-20 hours of dancing in them for experienced dancers, they buy them online once they know the exact make an model of the shoe they need. You cannot dance in a shoe that doesn't fit well, or even get up on the box perhaps.
