Should i wear flats with my prom dress or should i opt for high heels instead?

The dress is really long, nearly past my feet. I'm 5'8.

You know it is up to you. If you are not used to wearing high heels, your feet will really be hurting by the end of the night. If you are used to heels they will hurt just a little. This is what every woman experiences when they start attending all their girlfriends weddings. The heels come off and bare feet prevail on the dance floor. A prom doesn't sound like a place where shoes will be coming off. I went to 3 and that was what I remember. If your date is short, you may feel awkward with the extra 3 inches in height. I'm 5'11 but luckily always had tall dudes as dates. I had 2.5 inch heels the first time and my feet were killing me all night. I went down to a cute flat for the next two. i wanna start wearing high heels for prom and graduation for high school and what height of heel should i start off with? more than 2 3/4 inch i want to atleast wear 3 inch heels if they are easy to walk in.
