Laura asks…
Grey overall dress with black tights, but what colour boots?
I just bought this grey dress, that are like overalls, but a bit fancier and it flows to right above the knees. I was planning to wear black tights with it, but I don't know what colour boots to wear with them. I have beige/tan boots, and black boots (but they are really causal)
Our pick of the answers:
I'd go with the beige boots, or you could try red or orange boots, that would add an awesome twist. Try any of these! Susan asks…
Can you still be stylish while dressing for cold weather?
And by cold weather, I mean Vermont cold. I'll be going there for college this fall. I live in Georgia currently, so -20º F is something I've never had to worry about. How do I dress for that? Is it possible to still look feminine in bulky coats? Any suggestions? Thanks!
Our pick of the answers:
It's not quite -20...but yeah, it gets chilly--and yes, of course it's possible to look cute! Tips: --You can still wear jeans - but wear thin leggings (or even pantyhose/tights if it isn't THAT cold.) They even have wool or cashmere-lined leggings (yes, really). --Snow boots: you CAN find good-looking snow boots. Also get a pair of flat boots with a warm lining. Get some wool socks (if they're very thick, you might want to get your boots a bit bigger). The snow boots must be waterPROOF. The general cold weather boots can simply be water repellent...or at least just lined so they are warm. Uggs are ugly and not cool in college, so just don't. Boots should not be ankle-high, but about knee-high or at least hit around your shins, since snow can really pile up. You can also just get a pair of unlined flat boots, which will work with everything in the fall. --The trick to not looking bulky is to get a jacket that's not really bulky and to wear sweaters/layers. I HIGHLY suggest a long puffy coat instead of one that hits at your hip...longer ones really protect you from snow/wind and are much warmer. A hood is imperative. A down filling is very good for warmth. --Layering is important. You don't want to walk across campus and get into class and be sweating because you're wearing wool everything. --Invest in some cashmere and wool sweaters (though wool can be itchy). They are the warmest. Turtlenecks are never a bad idea if you can find cute ones. --Chunky scarves are cute and always in fashion. --Skinny jeans will be your best friend, because you can tuck them into boots. --You can still wear blazers in the winter. Just make sure they are a heavy fabric, like wool. You might want to start shopping now--there are probably still some items on sale as stores clear out the rest of their winter merchandise. And it's best to get clothing that's not really cheap, like from Forever 21--that will not keep you warm. (FYI...Lord & Taylor often has really good prices/sales on cashmere) Here are some cute, not too expensive items that will keep you warm AND look good: http://www.dsw.com/shoe/bare+traps+hawna+boot?prodId=254716&category=dsw12cat1740098&activeCats=cat10006,cat20173,dsw12cat1740098 (general cold weather) http://www.dsw.com/shoe/minnetonka+carson+boot?prodId=197576&activeCats=cat10006,cat20173,dsw12cat1740098 (general cold weather/light snow) http://www.zappos.com/baffin-new-york-black (snow boot) http://www.zappos.com/baffin-boston-black (snow boot) http://www.zappos.com/baffin-judy-black (snow boot) http://www.dsw.com/shoe/sm+frannk+riding+boot?prodId=dsw12prod4180092&category=dsw10cat70017&activeCats=cat10006,cat20173,dsw10cat70017 (good for fall or late spring.
