Why do a lot of vegetarians wear leather, suede, and fur? Isn't wearing an animal just as bad as eating it?

This is really aimed towards those vegetarians and vegans who "care about animals" rather than those who don't eat meat for other reasons. I am a vegetarian and I had to let go of all those leather goods like Coach, Dooney & Bourke, Nine West, etc. If you're gonna do something for a cause, then COMMIT to that cause.

Congrats on your commitment to your cause. It is great to hear and see vegetarians/vegans that go all out. And you are very right that eating and wearing an animal is the same thing, and the animal is killed for both reasons. I know several newbies at vegetarianism/veganism and they still wear their leather shoes because they are still good. They will buy new vegan ones when these go out. For envronmental reasons, this sounds plausible to me. Why throw something out and put more trash into the environment? At least they are aware of leather as an animal skin. Maybe vegetarians/vegans need to be educated about all the stuff that goes on with animal products. Like most white sugars use charred bones to bleach it/filter it (don't eat processed food that contain sugar in them). Or certain vitamins/minerals contain animal products for their product. And what about all the animals that are killed for the sake of testing products?? Make-up and birthcontrol pills are then out too. So many products that we take for granted are made on the death of animals. Every little bit helps to contribute to the overall peace we seek in this world.
