Sandra asks…
Why, in the UK do womens shoes only retail up to a size 7, 8 or rarely a 9?
Here in the UK I see so many pairs of womens shoes I wish I could have but find they only retail up to a max of a size 7 or 8 for mainstream fashion and in a select few stores up to a size 9 or 10. FYI I am a guy in touch with his feminine side and have a total adoration for hosiery and ladies shoes, in particular heels. There are lots of girls out there with feet size 9 and over, I am a size 9 and find it soooo frustrating that I always seem to be a size out. Surely the shoe industry must realise that not just women with feet up to a size 7 enjoy fashionable and sexy shoes in feminine styles. AND the range of colours too... sigh I better stop before I get carried away. Oh, and for anyone who says this... I know there are loads of online retailers specialising in larger ladies shoes (I have a rather large collection of boots and heels!) but I really dont always want fetishistic stilettos. Just a sensible pair of 3 or 4 inch courts in a modern, fashionable style would suffice.

The manufacturers have a mistaken belief that the whole human race is, as far as women are concerned restricted to size 7, sometimes you can get size 8 but they are quite rare. It is the same with men's shoes, they stop at size 11. Some enlightened shops sell size 12. Any bigger and you are into a search situation. My local shoe shop, at my request started to sell 13 and higher. Their turnover went sky high and they then advertised on the net and have 1000's of orders every year.

Sorry, I think its just to do with the highest average size that they can sell. Think about it from the manufactorer's and retailer's point of view - its quite unlikely that they would sell very many shoes in larger sizes. In fact, I think the same is true for people with very small feet. I have often gone to shoe sales and see hundreds of pair s in about a size 3, because they can't sell them. I am sorry for your predicament, and I know I haven't been much help. I can see what you mean about it being mainly fetitsh stuff that's available. That said, my boyfriend's ex (total bitch, but I guess this isn't the time or the place...) was 6ft tall with size nine feet, and i know she loved shoes. She lived in central London, so i'm pretty sure if you get yourself down there there will be somewhere. Actually, i remember seeing some gorgeous shoes in Selfridges of a larger size - maybe try there too! Good luck honey! XSx
