Your Questions About Shoes For Women With Wide Feet

Helen asks…

What type of pointe shoes should I get?

I have VERY wide feet. I also have very small feet. I wear a 5 woman's in street shoes. What pointe shoe would you recommend to fit my foot, Or will I just have to settle with them being a little too long?

Our pick of the answers:

I would recommend bloch..they do thermo morph technology pointe shoes and they will mould to the shape of your feet and they are the same price as a normal pair, i also have quite wide feet and my first pair were gamba and i thought they were good too, but when you go to buy your shoes they will make sure that the shoes fit right and if not they will find a pair that do, its not really the make thats important its just finding the right pair that will give you enough support and that fit comfortably. Hope that helps =)

Susan asks…

What will wearing supportless, flimsy ballerina slippers do to your feet?

I know a woman who only wears flimsy, soleless, fold up shoes. She has a five year old daughter who is not allowed to wear shoes. The mother is 41 years old. I caught a glimpse of HER feet and nearly died. She has huge wide flounder feet and a huge bunion. How can I tell her she may be damaging hers and her daughters feet? This kid walks on the hard concrete with ballerina fold up slippers that you buy in a plastic pouch. In the rain her feet get wet.

Our pick of the answers:

There was recent medical suggestion (can;t find the reference) that bunions aren't anything to do with environment/footware but is genetic (like arthiritus). The wide foot thing - well, that's subjective, but it's not going to harm the little girl. The only thing to worry about is if she stepped on something sharp which a solid soul would protect. But I suspect you may be over stepping the mark here, she's not doing anything irresponsible, and its not your place to tell her how to bring up her own children. Sorry if this upsets you
