Mandy asks…
What kind of boots does the military use?
So I am almost 16, and am thinking about doing what my brother did and enlisting in the navy as a corpsman when I graduate, and go green side or whatever they call it. I have always loved to wear boots because they just feel more comfortable and fit better on me I guess, regular shoes give me foot cramps and hurt my feet. I would like to get the type of boots navy corpsman attached to marines would use because I would just like to get used to them mostly. And also I think my feet are finally slowing down on growing, and would like some boots that will last a few years(size 12 or 13 shoes now). Any ideas? Thanks.

That's a very long list of approved boots, and it depends on what you'll be using them for and personal preference. Some general guidelines: You get what you pay for. For example a good set of danners run $200 or so, but they'll last you the rest of your life. A set of $30 Rothco's will maybe last 6 months. The more padding in the ankle area the more ankle support but the hotter it is in summer The sole plays a very large part, you want a sole that matches what you'll be doing. Ripple (shark fins) is great for sand, your more standard sole design is better for roads. Oakley somehow managed to find the best of both worlds in their sole but it's soft and will get torn up on jagged terrain. Puncture resistance/steel toes add protection but more weight. Puncture resistant soles also make the boot less flexible Here's some suggestions, go to a boot shop and try them on and see what you like and what's in your budget: Whites Danner Oakley 5.11 Bates Red wings Belleville boots are crap
