Donna asks…
How do you feel about the song "California Girls"?
I live in California, so I can totally relate to the song because I AM a California Girl. But what about people who don't live in California? Do you still like the song California Girls by Katy Perry? Why?
Our pick of the answers:
I don't like it. It's a catchy tune and all, I get that, but the lyrics kind of make me sick. "Sex on the beach We don't mind sand in our Stilettos We freak In my Jeep Snoop Doggy Dogg on the stereo..." "I mean the ones I mean like she's the one Kiss her Touch her Squeeze her buns..." Seriously?! What happened to feminism? Women being worth more than their bodies? And NOT being seen by men as empty-headed, pretty little sex objects, only there for their gratification? I'd love to hear a song about girls from California (or wherever really) being smart, independent, kind, capable and honest. Not just one about their asses and boobs. But I guess that wouldn't cut it on the charts. :-P
Maria asks…
Can someone help find an Eminem song with symbolism?
I have this language arts project and i need a song that shows symbolism, similes, metaphors all that kinda stuff. So can some one help me find a good song (preferably Eminem or any other rap song) that shows symbolism, and it needs to be school appropriate (no swear words, or offensive language or whatever) thanks!!
Our pick of the answers:
I had to do this project when I had to find it in twenty songs. It's actually easy to do if you have a favorite song (provided that the lyrics weren't written in first-grade vocab). So, I'll do one of my favorite rap songs: Sage Francis' "Black Out On White Night". Http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858651847/ Personification: "The obvious answer isn't standing on your face with stilettos on" "And the spurs are in the words so my tongue can't dismount" "...where tradition has a blind date I make it dance on its own grave tonight" Allusion: "She thinks I'm water proof like Superman doesn't need a roof over his head" Assonance: "When I come home to roost, I need truth of holy men" Alliteration: "Seeking salvation in a booth"
