Your Questions About Women's Pumps Shoes

Susan asks…

What to wear for my flapper costume?

Alright, my work is doing a celebration and we're dressing up from the Roaring 20s. So naturally, I want to be a flapper! I've got the hair, makeup, jewelry, headband, and dress all figured out. The only problem is this: I don't know what kind of shoes to wear! We have to walk a lot, so I can't wear heels. What shoes should I wear? Thanks!

Our pick of the answers:

Beaded flats would work well. They wore beaded flats in the Roaring Twenties. Check out vintage shops, or thrift stores for a pair that will match. You can also purchase plain, dye-able shoes that can be dyed to match any color. (sold in bridal shops) so brides can match their bridesmaids dresses perfectly (or for Proms or pageants). They manufacture flats, kitten-heels, high pumps and sandals that can all be dyed at home (or they do it). It's easy to do and not expensive. One of the best (and least expensive) places to find dyeable shoes is PAYLESS shoe stores (or their .com sales), believe it or not. They sell all varieties of dyeable, special occasion shoes and the dyes). Dyes can be purchased at any fabric store, mart store, even grocery stores (or shoe repair shops and you don't have to have them professionally dyed = it's easy DIY project). I probably wouldn't want to wear heels, either, if you have to be on your feet the whole time..but fyi; The secret to wearing heels is to purchase professional dancer shoes. (the kind showgirls wear) as well as professional, ballroom dancers, etc. They have an (approximately) 3 1/2" heel that's not stiletto, it's a little thicker and the shoes are sort of half sandal/half shoe. They are manufactured for dancers on stage and very sturdy. They're created so dancers (who have to wear heels on stage) won't develop foot and leg cramping, pain, swelling or any other issues. Professional dance wear shops carry them. Any professional dancers supply site or shop has them in all varieties. Tap, Jazz, Ballroom, Showgirl, Ballet, Belly..you name it..they have it. Pro dancer shoes are comfortable because they're designed to be. Any bridal/Prom wear shop can steer you in the right direction, locally, for dyeable flats or dyeable ladies shoes..they may even have a few pairs there (so bridesmaids can try on various dresses with matching shoes). Your best bet is to dye a pair to match the 20's dress. Or, glue sequins/beads/glitter to an inexpensive and comfortable flats = cute, fun and inexpensive. I am looking for a pair of Paris Hilton's Senoritas in a size 5 Pewter?

I have looked all over online and cannot find them anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get them? Do you have a pair that is like-new? Do you usually wear a size 5 whereas you purchased these in a 5.5 and they still fit well?
