Your Questions About Stilettos

Susan asks…

How do i walk in stilettos?

they re 13cm tall stilettos &i never wear heels, only trainers!my problem is that i cant keep my ankles steady, they go outwards &i lose my balance &fall sometimes.how do i do this?i have to wear them for a job!

Our pick of the answers:

Wearing stilettos should come naturally to you if you don't focus too much on it. Just walkat a slower pace, never run or take long strides, especially if you're not familiar with them. Start off with lower heels and walk with them around the house, and gradually work your way up. Also don't be afraid to carry all your weight on your heel, they wont snap or give away. Don't put all your weight on the sides or inner sides of your feet or you could hurt yourself, and will cause back problems. Another thing most girls seem to get wrong is they stump with out using "heel then toe" because they're scared the heels wont support their stride, and they walk with a gap between their legs. Keep a straight back, shoulders back, look ahead yet remain relaxed don't tense up. Then walk with each foot a bit closer to the center as you pull it forward, but not too inwards so that you don't lose balance. If you're having trouble with posture, i read somewhere to imagine you are a candle melting. I know that sounds really lame, but it works :P Another tip, remember to have relaxed hips, they will sway a bit, but that's a good thing, and your body will balance out as you walk. Eventually you'll get the hang of it, try not to think about it too much, just remember relax! Oh and also don't worry, all girls started somewhere, i used to have so much trouble at first :)

Carol asks…

How do you walk in stilettos without scraping the tip of the heel off?

I can walk and balance just fine in high heels, but with stilettos, when I walk heel-toe, the heel gets scraped to nothing in one wearing. What am I doing wrong? The heel catches on the pavement, bends a little, and makes a horrible scraping noise. Is my stride too long? Height doesn't seem to make a difference -- 4", kitten heel, you name it, if it's got a tiny point on the bottom, that point is gone before you can say hey presto. I do walk a lot on city sidewalks ... do I have to give up on pointy heels?

Our pick of the answers:

There are things a shoe repair shop can put on the heels to make they more durable. Try the yellow pages wherever you live and look for shoe repair. Tell the person there what your prob is and they can put, I think they call em 'taps' on them. I had a pair from the 50's that I had to have done and they lasted a long time.
