Mary asks…
Is it OK to play in tennis court shoes [a bit smaller than] half a size too big?
Adidas Barricades. I bought my size because they apparently fit true to size but they seem kind of big. The width is GREAT but the shoe is a bit too long-- when I walk, my heels slip a TINY bit, but I can't tell if it's the shoe or not. SHould I return them and get a half size smaller? Thanks!

Our pick of the answers:
I have worn various Adidas Barricades and always found them to be true to size (not always the case with shoes). Regardless, usually better to have shoes that have a little extra room as when you exert yourself, your feet naturally swell. Ever come home after a long day and your shoes seem tighter? Same reason. My foot size is actually between two half sizes and I always go with the larger half size to ensure I am comfortable when playing. I would first recommend making sure laces are tightened and possibly wearing thicker socks. If still feels too loose, another option is to add a sports insert. This can make the shoe even more comfortable and naturally reduces extra room. Could also have better traction inside the shoe (reduce the slipping at the heal). I would keep the slightly larger size as would be much more comfortable than playing in a smaller size...can always address a shoe that is just a tiny bit large but cannot do much about a shoe that "shrinks" when your feet naturally swell.
