Maria asks…
How common is it for the Commandant of the Marine Corps to personally hand out a Purple Heart?
A local Marine badly injured in Afghanistan by a road side bomb was awarded a Purple Heart by Commandant of the Marine Corps General James Amos while recovering at the National Naval Medical Center in Maryland. With the large number of wounded coming back is this fairly common? Or is it due the the severity of this wounds that the CMC brings him his medal?

Ruth asks…
Who guards the commandant of the Marine Corps when he goes out to visit his Marines?
I once got to land the Huey that the CMC was riding in and also in the air were two cobra gun ships circling above. But once the Huey landed and the CMC was out and about he had about 4 armed men who were not dressed in military uniform. They were armed with some sort of very small machine gun. Who would these individuals be?
